Project_CharlieProject Charlie: These Days

Project Charlie is a true New York band that believes in the revival of Rock and Roll. All band members live in the city, allowing their songs to express both the excitement of New York and the inevitable jadedness of its inhabitants. Project Charlie'S music reflects its members misspent youth on the streets of New York and their subsequent coming of age. The band believes in the power of music and its ability to create both social and political change. While this notion seems to have been forgotten over the past several decades, the Project is working hard to revitalize the importance and power of music.

Project Charlie incorporates aspects of punk, jazz, funk, and world music to shape their neo-classic rock sound. Their largest influences are The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, The Velvet Underground, and The White Stripes. Lead singers Peter Smith (rhythm guitar) and Neill MacCallum (bass) grew up across the street from each other. The musical relationship that would later be the foundation of Project Charlie began in a basement room seven years ago. Yet Project Charlie did not emerge until June of 2005 when they stumbled upon Alec Menge drumming in Central Park.

After attending the New School and majoring in jazz drumming, Alec developed his unique Rock style that helps distinguish Project Charlie from other bands. The following October, keyboardist Jay Comer joined the group adding a new layer to the music. The roster wasn't completed until April of 2007 when Darren Korb became the new lead guitarist.

Although Project Charlie is still a young band, they have performed at some of the best venues across the tri-state area including Snitch, The Lion's Den, Arlene's Grocery, The Knitting Factory, CBGB's, Stephens Talkhouse, Toads Place, Sin-é, and The Bitter End. The young men recently organized and completed their first tour spanning the Eastern seaboard from Boston to Rehoboth Beach.

The band is excited about the future of rock and roll and looks forward to making their positive contribution.
